THE NEW BENEFICE CENTRE
An exciting new venture is now underway in the Benefice. We have been very fortunate to be offered the use of Child's Ercall School as a resource for benefice activities. Initially its use will be for youth groups but the possibilities are endless.
A steering committee has been formed of one representative from each of our six parishes. This steering committee will deal with getting the school up and running as a meeting place, hopefully by October.
It is a wonderful opportunity to have a place to meet that can be 'owned 'by benefice groups. It will not be a success though without the help of as many people as possible from all the parishes.
The plan is to hold two youth clubs from October, one on Wednesdays for the 10-13 age group and one on Thursdays for the 14-17 age group. The Wednesday club will be a structured youth club with organised activities. The Thursday club will be an informal 'drop-in' centre, a safe place for teenagers just to 'hang out'. This will require a lot of help but with careful planning not too much from any one person.
I am looking for offers of help from anyone who is prepared to give up two hours per month. All kinds of skills will be needed. I am sure there are people in our benefice who have much to offer. I have already had offers of cookery classes, sport etc. A driver is needed for the minibus, or possibly several drivers, to pick up youngsters from all the parishes. I need to be at the school early to set up for each session so cannot be collecting with the bus, however I would be free to drive youngsters home at the end.
I cannot emphasise enough the need for commitment from a large number of people to make this happen. I am passionate about the need for young people to be given a place to meet in our rural villages but the passion of one person will not make this happen.
